Assalamualaikum and greetings everyone. My name is Muhammad Nursyahmi Bin Lotfi Nor, Matrics number KIA160053 and this is ongoing reflection of mine. We decided to do the social engagement course with toy’s library association where it was a new kind of volunteerism for me. Many things that I’ve learned while doing the social engagement where it involves with the community of Apartment Idaman, Datin PH Wong, Puan Jamila, Mr Hor and Mr Tan.
The first day of social engagement, where we decided to meet Auntie J and the rangers team (active members of toy libraries) to discuss on what are the activities that help to encourage kids to come to toy libraries. We split into few groups that mix of kids from apartment Idaman and member of civangers where each group are assign different task. I quote a statement from Datin Ph Wong, “to encourage kid to join the activities, we have to know what they want”. Thus, each group will discuss on their task and think the most suitable solution. In the evening, we help to clean up the toy libraries area with rangers team. Through this, I’ve learned that teamwork with various kind people is very important to solve problem.
The second day, we went to Tadika Lin Lin to help clean and organize the kindergarten. The kindergarten will start operation on the next week. On that day, we were introduce to Mr Hor who was an inventor and Mr Tan who an expert in brain training, with their giving advice at us while cleaning and organizing, we manage to finish clean and organize the kindergarten in few hours. This experience showed an idea or advise from a wise person can help to improve productivity of our work.
On the third day, we manage to do activities with kids from Apartment Idaman. It was a very happy day for me, as we are doing activities that involve with the community. It starts with ‘senamrobik’, cooking session and finished with art and craft session. The kids enjoying their time while doing all these activities. Although, it was a very tiring day the satisfaction of seeing smile that carve on the kid face is worth it.
Last day, we were introduced to the invention of Mr Hor at Tadika Lin Lin. It was unique and appease to see all his invention. He also shows us his invention which has been commercialize in Malaysia, the self-watering pot. Spent almost 10 years on realizing his idea really make me shaken up and realizing that never give up on your idea even though it takes so long to implement it.
In conclusion, I was really enjoying my time while doing all the activities and learn many things. I would to express my gratitude for having such a good team where they are very helpful and committed to make this a successful program. I hope there will be a continues volunteer that will help the toy library to cheer the kid in the society.
